DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Trade started out as early as Monday last week, with
Northern dressed deals ranging from $355 to $362, mostly $358 to $360, $9 to
$11 lower than the prior weeks weighted average basis Nebraska. Southern
business was very light and scattered but the few that did move were at $235
to $235.50, $2.50 to $4 lower than the previous week's weighted averages.
According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase
Summary reports the weekly accumulated weighted averages were recorded as: KS
$235.00($238.67); NE $358.43($368.95); TX $235.50($238.11); IA $358.77
($370.72); CO was not available due to confidentiality. (the prior week's
weighted averages are listed in parentheses).
The Friday afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 1,020; NE 23,361; TX 699, IA 15,844; CO NA due to
confidentiality. It will be interesting to see just how many Southern formula
cattle there will be when reports are released a little later this morning.
Friday's slaughter totaled 98,000 head, 12,000 less than the prior week, and
20,000 less than a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 4,000 head,
bringing the weekly total to 559,000 head, 14,000 under the previous week,
and down 57,000 from 2024. The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and
boxed beef cuts: choice $379.06(+6.93), select $360.32(+5.85), with an
average choice/select spread of $18.74(+1.08), and a total load count
including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 592(-25), (Changes from the prior
week are listed in parentheses).
For the week ending October 25, 2025, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the
U.S. totaled 50,168, 111.32% of the previous week and 105.70% of the 4-week
average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It will likely be a typically quiet Monday morning with
both packers and producers busy taking inventory and preparing for the week
ahead. Bids and asking prices have yet to be established, and significant
trade volume will likely be delayed until the second half of the week. Beef
cutouts are expected to be lower with light box movement.
